Background: The Pathology Laboratory gets a lot of repetitive telephone calls from Doctors and Nurses about what specimen tube they need to use to collect a blood sample for testing. They have an online web database which can provide the information required, but most times the caller claims they do not have easy access to a PC in order to search it.

Proposal: The client, Tom Hartley, has proposed that a new SMS based query system should be developed to greatly reduce the number of telephone calls that Pathology Services receives regarding specimen tube types. The SMS based system will complement and run alongside the already existing website. The SMS system will allow medical staff taking specimen samples to use their mobile phones to send an SMS query containing the name of the test to the SMS system. The SMS system shall then send back an SMS reply to the staff member containing the tube type that they should use, as well as any other important information relevant to their query.

Objective: The SMSTube system seeks implement the system described above and provide SMS access to the the pathology database so that requests can be serviced via the users mobile phone.
