Our project is to build a client application for browsing the Sensor Web. The Sensor Web is an emerging technology concept which aims to standardise protocols for communicating with sensors. As the Sensor Web is a new technology, a user friendly application for interacting with it has not yet been developed. The Sensor Web is made up of a variety of sensor technologies.

The focus of our project is on communicating with one of these technologies, Sensor Observation Services. Sensor Observation Services provide information about sensors and measurements made by sensors. CSIRO has constructed a Sensor Web test bed in the South Esk with several Sensor Observation Services. The CSIRO test bed takes measurements of a variety of environmental phenomena including rainfall, wind speed, humidity, temperature and solar radiation. Our application makes interacting with Sensor Observation Services as easy as possible by interpreting the complex communications sent by Sensor Observation Services for the user and displaying the resulting information in a clear and meaningful way to users.
