Release
2
Release 2 of the software
implements further features of the Graphical User Interface including
validation of required fields, custom graphics on the interface
as well as enhanced user navigation features. There are a number
error and information dialogs throughout the program. Data entry
in release 2 remains unchanged from in release 1, other than the
validation. The date and time defaults to the current
system time and date and allows the user to select the minutes
in 10 minute increments. The year field show the current year
and one year previous, this will all a user to enter an incident
that occurred prior to January 1. The only areas a user may manually
enter data are the description and the suggestion, all other fields
are selected from predefined lists, some of which are loaded from
the database.
The following data is entered
or selected by the user:
- Time and date of the error or near miss
- brief description of the incident
- patient outcome, categorised from A to I
- whether or not an Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) occurred
- type of ADR and whether or not it has been reported to ADRAC,
the user can access the Therapeutic Goods Administration website
to report an ADR
- the drug or drugs involved in an incident, the error type and
the actual error
- the probable cause of the incident
- any suggestions they may have to prevent the reported error
from reoccurring.
Required fields are validated
when the user clicks the next button, validated fields are the
description, outcome, drug involved, error
type and actual error. If an ADR has occurred then the ADR type
is required the only other field that is validated is the probable
cause where at least one must be selected. The final screen is
a confirmation screen which allows the user to check their entries
before submitting the error to the database, the user can navigate
back to the screen they need to edit, make the required changes
then navigate back to the final screen and enter the error to the
database. A thank and confirmation dialog is produced to inform
the user of their success. If for some reason the database connection
is lost or not available an error message will be produced when
the application attempts to connect to the database.
Administrator Section
The administrator section includes
the following:
- Administrator authentication via a logon screen
- report generation
- add new item to tables in database
- drugs
- probable causes
- ADR's
- error types and actual errors
- change administrators password
- add new administrator and password
All new entries to the database are validated, if an item already
exists in a table it cannot be entered a second time. The drug
entry screen only allows entries in uppercase, all the other entry
fileds restricted to 80 characters to prevent the database from
being corrupted. As a security measure passwords can only be changed
if a current username and password are provided first.
