Above (left to right): Sotiris,
Andrew, Kim and Matt - Demo Day, October 8th, 2003.
This Wednesday was the big Demo Day. All the students had the opportunity
to exhibit their projects to the public and get valuable feedback.
According to our coordinator the
Demo Day was a big success. It was attended by other students, parents and
relatives, past teachers, IT professionals and general public.
Our team was busy all day with visitors
from various backgrounds. One of the interesting aspects of the demo day
is that the team had to adjust the presentation for visitors with an excellent
background on computing as well as persons not so computer literate.
We also had the opportunity to check
on other students final product and talk about various problems they encountered.
All teams looked good and professional.
It was a memorable day full of smiles.

client, Maurice Woodmansee.
After many cancellations, mainly because of bad weather, we finally managed
to attend a real game of Croquet. For all of us it was the first time.
We drove to Kingston to the local
croquet club where the members were happy to assist us with our developing
skills in using the mallet.
The members of the club were very
helpful. They answered all our questions and agreed to pose for us.
Our project client is member of
the Kingston club as well so we had the opportunity to briefly discuss problems
with the code and get together for a team photograph witch was used in our
poster.

We are already half way through
the semester and everything is going really well. We are all working on coding
and already have a few of the interfaces up and running. These interfaces
are implemented and waiting to be tested by the client which we are going
to meet next week.
This week we had the management
meeting, which we used as a basis for self criticism to pinpoint areas where
there is space from improvement. Namely the quality of the product and human-computer
interaction issues in the interfaces and later in the manuals.
We also have to start preparations
for the demo day. With a little bit of stress management it could be a day
of fun. Come on everybody we are almost there.
Thanks for looking
at our site, drop in on demonstration
day and check out our system.

The break was long and
relaxing for most of us. Our long journey through the second semester has
started.
The croquet team will keep
the same positions as in the first semester. No drama, no excitement.
After the meeting with
the client the system requirements were established. We realized that we
have to update the database. New use cases were added and the number of
the reports jumped to 12!! A new administrative task was added to the
old ones. Our tools page is not going to be updated because no new tools
were added for the second semester.
On Wednesday we had the
first meeting with our supervisor (Ian Lewis). Our cooperation looks very
promising. We had better get started. Time is precious.
We wish everybody well.
Thursday 22nd May
2003
This is the second last week of the semester. This Wednesday 21 of May
we had our presentation. We are quite happy with the whole performance.
Seven guests from the client's
side including the president of Croquet Tasmania and one of the future users
of our system attended our presentation. We had the opportunity to answer
the questions they asked.
Our client was asked by the
administrative committee of Croquet Tasmania to give them a brief report
regarding the work we are doing for the handicapping system, for their annual
meeting in May.
This is our client's reply to
them:
"...The modernised system
will be mouse driven instead of being command driven. It will be user friendly.
It will be possible to send computer lists directly from the computer via
e-mail. Lists from clubs sent via e-mail will be able to be scrutinised,
corrected and then fed directly into the computer without having to retype
the information. The system will be written in appropriate computer languages
to enable the system to be run entirely on the internet.
The system is being modernised
by a group of four, 3rd year students at the University of Tasmania as a
project for their degree studies in Information Technology. Their work will
be complete by the end of October 2003. By then, the system should be up
and running and operating handbooks will have been prepared."
- April 2003.
