Interactive timeline softwareCLIENT NAME: Richard Moore - (Manager of the National Automobile Museum of Tasmania) DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT AS STATED BY THE TEAM OVERVIEW This project involves the creation of software which allows museums to create displays to be shown on computers for the exhibits shown. The main piece of software (the administration section), will allow a museum curator to create and edit the look and content of exhibit displays as well as link them to timelines which give further depth to the display. The client software is a basic web browser with all the menus turned off (for example the back and forward buttons) , to create a slick and easy to use environment for museum visitors of different ages and computer knowledge. The software will allow for the creation ofexhibit displays containing text, pictures and video, and will allow for customisation of the look of the displays. This allows the software to be used by different museums. TECHNICAL ASPECTS The software will use an SQL database to store information about timelines and the exhibitions created on the administration software will be stored in basic text files until the administrator chooses to render them to HTML. The exhibit pages that require database information and interaction will use PHP to handle this aspect. The program is to be programmed in Visual C++. The exhibition pages will be held on a server and will be accessed by client computers in the museum exhibition area. RELEASE TWO INFORMATION: Release two of Curator will improve on the first release in several areas. Firstly, The program shall be developed in such a way that it may be configured to reflect the look and content of different museums or museum sections. Several styles will be created using PHP and will be selectable by users of Curator in order to impose pre-determined looks to exhbit pages. This will provide a degree of seperation of style and content, which will allow users to create exhibits with consistancy faster and more easily. The user will also be able to configure all aspects of the client interface including colour, look and placement of navigation bars. Other improvements to Curator will include the ability to configure the client machines to look up the correct starting point to be displayed.Another improvement will allow the program to render the images in the exhibits as png files for the HTML page. In release 2, Curator will also allow a user to change picture and video properties. This will allow for more functionality for pictures and videos in exhibits. When the exhibit pages are displayed on the client machines in the museum, in release 2, they will automatically return to a pre-set home/start page after a pre-determined time.
