Welcome to PKAW 2008
The PKAW 2008 is a part of The Tenth Pacific Rim International Conference on Artificial Intelligence (PRICAI 2008).
The purpose of this workshop is to provide a forum for presentation and discussion of all aspects of knowledge acquisition from both the theoretician's and practitioner's points of view. While it is well accepted that knowledge is vital for our individual, organisational and societal survival and growth, the nature of knowledge and how it can be captured, represented, reused, maintained and shared are not fully-understood. This workshop will explore approaches that seek to provide some answers. With the explosion of the Internet, information overload is a common complaint. We need knowledge and knowledge acquisition techniques to filter data and information to distill and apply further knowledge. The Semantic Web also offers a promise of managing some of this overload, but much research is needed for it to become a reality. One challenge is to provide better techniques for acquiring and sharing the knowledge used by software agents and applications. Leading organisations are changing their strategic focus from knowledge management to innovation management. Those working in innovation research and practice are encouraged to contribute their methods and experiences in gaining the knowledge needed for idea generation, creativity and innovation. The knowledge acquisition community are challenged to consider and develop approaches that specifically address innovation type knowledge.
We invite authors to submit papers on any aspect of artificial intelligence research and practice. All papers will be peer reviewed, and those accepted for the conference will be included in a proceeding.
