Overview
Marine science is recognized as a major research strength within
the University and within Tasmania generally. The marine science community
is now moving towards a greater use of quantitative methods in their discipline
and so the need for advanced computing techniques for marine science
applications is increasing rapidly. Skills available within the School
of Computing & Information Systems, in the fields of digital image analysis,
machine learning, agent-based simulation, distributed computing,
internet monitoring and ubiquitous computing, as well as international
leadership in the development of digital repositories, place the School
in an excellent position to contribute to the already high profile of
the University in the marine sciences.
