eHealth Services Research Group Overview


Established in late 2003, the eHealth Services Research Group (eHSRG) at the University of Tasmania conducts research and consultancy deploying human-centred approaches to the design, implementation and evaluation of health systems, work practices and information technology.

The eHSRG has a strong research track record including the acquisition of funding through participation in nationally competitive grants from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) grants and the Wicking Trust (ANZ bank charitable trust). The eHSRG has also engaged in research and consultancy with a large number of Tasmanian and National health organizations and agencies, including General Practice Tasmania, Pharmacy Guild, Australian Commission for Safety and Quality in Healthcare, Department of Health and Ageing and the Tasmanian Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

Key foci of eHSRG research and consultancy are:

  • Innovative approaches to supporting chronic disease self-management through nurse mentoring and information technology (focus on respiratory diseases);
  • Re-engineering trajectories for dementia care across primary, community and acute care including capacity building and deployment of assistive technologies;
  • Approaches to enhancing clinical handover to promote safety & quality;
  • Evaluations of secure electronic communications across the primary and acute care sectors;

The eHealth Services Research group is currently comprised of 8 researchers with expertise across medicine, nursing, allied health and information systems and technology.
