The Master of Information Technology by Coursework degree offers advanced studies in computing to those who have a Bachelor’s degree and varying levels of computing experience or study. Graduates of this degree are equipped to work as computer professionals with specialized knowledge.
Masters students at the School of Computing and Information Systems enjoy excellent facilities, including individual work stations and computers in the final year, 24-hour access to state-of-the-art laboratories, student lounge and recreation areas, and a range of social, sporting and cultural opportunities. Small group tuition and easy access to academic and admistrative staff create a supportive study environment. This is further enhanced for overseas students with the appointment of a School of Computing and Information Systems International Student Affairs Coordinator.
Pathway A: Non-computing graduates with little or no experience or study in computing (2 years)
Students will undertake four undergraduate units and four advanced undergraduate units followed by eight post-graduate units. With permission, two post-graduate units may be replaced with an advanced project.
Pathway B: Computing graduates or non-Computing graduates with prior studies or workplace experience in computing (1.5 years)
Students will undertake four advanced undergraduate units followed by eight post-graduate units. With permission, two post-graduate units may be replaced with an advanced project.
Pathway C: Computing graduates with excellant academic records and workplace experience in computing(1 year)
Students will undertake one year of study to complete eight post-graduate units. With permission, two post-graduate units may be replaced with an advanced project.
There are two semesters each year at the University of Tasmania and each semester has thirteen teaching weeks. First semester starts late February and continues until June and second semester starts early July and continues until November. You can begin your Masters program in first or second semester. The course is offered internally at the Launceston Campus.
The minimum English language competency requirement is no band less than 6.0 in IELTS, or 233 in Computer Based TOEFL (575 in TOEFL), including 4.5 for written English, or a substantial proportion of prior education undertaken in English. Applications may enrol in an English language course conducted on the University campus.
